Vintage layouts give a classic and timeless feel to your card. In today's tip, I'm going to show you how to give your layout a classic look and vibe using a gesso tag as an embellishment.

Read the Step-by-Step Guide Below:

Step 1:

Here are the supplies you need for this card layout: a tag, an old book page, gesso, palette knife, burlap, small happy birthday note, twine, craft puncher and some colored paper.

Step 2:

Apply a nice thin layer of gesso on your paper using your palette knife. Remember to wipe down the gesso from your knife as it will get rock hard and will ruin it if it dries up.
As you can see, I've got one directly over my tag with no paper in between and the other one I've got directly on to my colored paper.

Step 3:

Peel the paper off the tag, and you'll see that you are left with the negative side of the print. It creates such an organic and messy effect and just looks really nice on tags!

Step 4:

Then add a little bit more gesso on the few blank areas of the tag to finish it off nicely.

Step 5:

As an additional design, I am gonna tear this lovely orange colored paper and layer it over the top.

You can also tear off the bits that you don't want, leaving a little bit of underside of the orange paper as seen below.

Step 6:

Then, as you can see I used my butterfly punch and created these rustic-looking butterflies. Some of which I've painted with ink and some I have literally put gesso over the top, giving them a nice thick feel.

Step 7:

Before putting everything together, add a small burlap which always adds that lovely vintage feel to your design. Burlap is such a fantastic addition whenever you're going for a vintage look.

Step 8:

Then stick the butterflies and a happy birthday note in the middle. You can also add a little bit of twine to the tag's hole to complete it.

You can now put it on top of your card and it will look absolutely gorgeous and stunning! Such a lovely embellishment for your card, isn't it? I love vintage designs on my cards!
